About
By Expedito S. Perlas, Jr.
People revere their lives and freedom. So I chose a logo that symbolizes life. This Hebrew word is “Chai”. As a Paralegal, my primary duty is to search for Truth in order to protect that life and liberty and to sow hope in the hearts and minds of my Clients, so that tomorrow will be a better day.
As the sun rises-up early in the morning, new rays of Hope (Tikva) beam upon the earth. As there are paramedics to save a life of a dying person who meets an accident on the highway, or save a pregnant woman and her child about to give birth on her way to the hospital with a medical condition ; the Paralegal on the other hand, can save liberty, fortune and honor on a person’s way to Court in the absence of a lawyer. Or, give life and a festive joy on his wedding ceremony and more. He can also promote peace and happiness on the services they render, by giving legal advices based on their experiences and some legal education and wisdom coming from the Holy Scripture.
As Tevye says it in the movie, Fiddler on the Roof, “To our Prosperity, Good Health and Happiness, To Life, L’ Chayim!!.”
So, one of the greatest duty of man to himself is to enjoy Life. And it must be shared to others and thank his Maker and Creator, the GAOTU, Who is the true source of Life and Light.
“So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of life God has given them under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 8:15) The Holy Bible- New International Version
“It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.” ~Charles Spurgeon
A Paralegal practice in the Philippines is not yet popular as compared to other countries like the USA, yet there are many who are involved in this career or pursuit of profession. Those who have finished college or have at least reached second year in the College of Law, worked before as a police officer or a military personnel is a big edge. Also, a good church and community exposure and involvement with a passion to serve is a plus factor. While a minimal fee is expected for rendering service, helping others is my most important task to do.
To be a paralegal one needs to have at least a bachelor’s degree in the liberal arts or humanities or a background in law (https://paralegal.law.upd.edu.ph/)
However aside from my scholastic background, I had served in the police service in different provinces and cities and offices and underwent specialized schoolings in human relation, police investigations with one (1) month on the job-training at the NBI. A good spiritual practice and discipline as in believer of the Deity or of the GAOTU and my three (3) years of teaching experiences in the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa ( http://www.plmun.edu.ph) in the College Education and Criminology from 2011 to 2014, was a good experience. It taught me to understand the aspect of man’s problem and to find solution. Also, a good communication skills and human understanding, trust and good rapport, faith as well as relationship with God is big advantage.
